Pecometh's First Ever Fishing Derby

Pier.jpgOn Saturday, May 14th, there will be a great opportunity to get some fishing in at Camp Pecometh. The Inaugural Pecometh Youth Fishing Derby will be held from 8a-12noon, with registration beginning at 7am.How did this whole thing start?

Food Services Coordinator Chris Schultz met Pastor Shane Moran of Church Hill UMC and Bethany UMC in Price MD, about 2 ½ years ago when Shane first became a Spiritual Life Coordinator (a volunteer Bible study and worship leader at camp).

Shane loves to fish, and these two have been fishing buddies for about the last year and a half. Last fall, they thought it would be great to have a local fishing contest at Pecometh.

Chris says, “We just want to make it a fun morning, where the locals get to fish right off our pier here. It’s a great fishing hole with perch, catfish and more.”

Shane adds, “My heart is in ministry to young people, and I enjoy finding new ways to acquaint them with Pecometh, and ultimately, lead them to Christ.”

All proceeds raised will go towards Pecometh’s campership fund, which helps get as many kids to camp as possible.

Prizes will be handed out for different categories within each age group. Everyone has a chance to win the casting contest, and the grand prize will be a free week of camp. There will also be free giveaways, including Pecometh T-shirts.

How much will all of this cost?

Entry fees are:

  • Ages 12-18, $15 each
  • Ages 7-12, $10
  • Age 6 and under, $7.

A lunch of hot dogs, chips and soda are included in the entry fee. These food items will be available for purchase for the general public, as well.

We look forward to a truly great event, and know there will be many more fishing derbies to come.
