As part of our recent Pecometh Day, we held a plant sale to support our growing sustainable garden. There were a variety of plants that were sold that day, including dill, marigolds, zinnias, strawflower, 4 o’clocks, nasturtiums, and more. We sold approximately 150-200 plants, and we still have about 200-300 plants available for sale.

More on how to get your plant later.

We’ve had great success with our sustainable garden over the past three years, and it’s made a real impact in our community, as well as enriching our food supply.

Also, the addition of our new greenhouse is 90% complete, says Food Service Coordinator Chris Shultz.

He adds that our next step is to start working with local churches in the area and in our conference and get them started in developing their own gardens and vegetable starts.

It’s only right that we give back to them what they have been so loyal in giving to us.

In fact, things have been so busy recently that we’ve hired an intern, Sara Bedwell, to help keep the garden and the new greenhouse looking great.

Sara’s background includes estate gardening, and she is currently the youth director at First UMC in Chestertown. Shultz is very excited about what she brings to Pecometh.

She also wants to lead Bible studies this summer in the greenhouse once work there is fully completed.

Recently during spring break, we had some wonderful college students from the University of Delaware Wesley Foundation come to Pecometh who volunteered their time and efforts in funding compost bins.

With all of the great changes occurring, Chris’ dad suggested a new name for the area…. Pecometh’s “Grace Garden.”

We’ve even added a new slogan to go along with the new name…”Nurturing God’s Creation."

I think it’ll catch on.

If you’re interested in purchasing one of the remaining plants we have available, contact Chris Shultz (410-556-6900 ext. 106).

Don’t forget to join us for our annual Farm to Table Dinner on Sunday August 2nd at 5pm.

We’ll enjoy an evening of gourmet food and fellowship as we raise money for the garden. Tickets are $50 each, and the five course meal will be prepared by Chef Chris and his staff.

This dinner is the primary way we fund this growing ministry. One half of the ticket price goes directly back into the Grace Garden and the other half is tax-deductable.

Reservations as they are required due to limited seating for this event, so register online or contact Dana Squares

We look forward to seeing you this August and also to what God has in store for our growing Grace Garden.
