Camp Pecometh 2015: Exciting New Camp Programs & Traditional Favorites

IMG_2694REDUCED

Each year, we try to identify fun programs that fit into Camp Pecometh's summer traditions while creating new opportunities for our campers looking for something different. We always incorporate the excitement of campfires and music time, the spiritual aspects of Bible study and Galilean, and the time-honored swimming, canoeing, and arts & crafts, but we weave in new challenges and opportunities for growth.

This year we have 3 new camp programs, along with several updates to favorite existing programs.

Day Camp: Explorers

Day Camp Explorers is an expansion of our very popular Day Camp program, but for older campers (4th-6th grade*). These campers will get to participate in Challenge Course and Archery in addition to all of their day camp favorites like pool time, arts & crafts, and Nature Disco. Exclusive to the Explorers program will be a weekly field trip. Each week will be a different fun and educational opportunity, and may include trips to Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC in addition to local treasures right here on our own Eastern Shore.

Also new this year, both our Day Camp and Explorer campers will have the opportunity to sign up for an overnight stay on Thursday night! For no additional cost, campers will stay for dinner, evening activities (including our camper-favorite Galilean service), and a sleepover in the Day Camp Woodside cabins.

Photography Camp

We're very excited about our new Photography program (7th-10th grade*). Summer camp at Pecometh provides the perfect setting for budding photographers to explore composition, lighting, perspective, and a variety of subjects. Local pastor and photographer Asher Tunik will lead sessions and guide campers through assignments to help them create and understand art in the context of their faith. (Please note: campers are required to bring their own digital camera for this program)

Staff-in-Training

The Staff-in-Training, or SIT, program is designed to help our oldest campers (10th-11th grade*) transition into roles of leadership on and off camp. This two-week intensive experience will include hands-on learning about Christian leadership/followership, helping participants to identify how a great leader sounds, looks, and acts. Participants will also complete First Aid and CPR/AED certifications. In their second week, SITs will be paired with a mentor, live in camper cabins, and have the opportunity to serve in a variety of camp roles to find their niche.

Updates to Old Favorites

We've made a few changes to existing programs to better suit the needs of our campers and their families (you asked, we listened!).

  • Expanded age group and programming for day campers
  • Optional overnight stay for Day Camp and Explorers campers
  • One Top Chef session expanded to include campers through 10th grade*
  • Updated Horseback programming to incorporate an intro to Western, including lassoing!

We've also expanded our Mini Camp program to include campers from Kindergarten through 5th grade*. Our K-2nd graders will be in cabin groups with 2 counselors to provide close supervision and support for our youngest overnight campers. Our 3rd-5th graders will be in small cabin groups with 1 counselor to again provide close supervision while creating a safe environment to practice independence.

Regardless of the program each camper chooses this summer, they can be guaranteed a safe, God-inspired experience. Summer camp is the perfect place to build new friendships and create life-long memories. If you're looking for the perfect program for your camper, please consider one of these exciting new programs! Or contact myself or our Registrar, Julie Lutz, to help you find the best program for your child or youth.
